Student Progression

Skydive Taft offers Skydiving Certification classes for California residents and beyond to ensure safety during their Accelerated FreeFall (AFF) progression process.

These classes are required before someone attempts to go on an AFF dive.

The first day of the course, AFF level 1, typically involves 4 to 6 hours of ground school where all manors of emergencies are covered.

The class covers everything from airplane procedures, airplane emergencies, skydive exits, body positioning, skydive emergencies, canopy emergencies, canopy operation, landing emergencies, landing procedures.

At Skydive Taft, we’ll go over important AFF hand signals, the 7-point canopy checklist along with the most important procedure of all, pulling your parachute. You may obtain more information on the above in the following PDF: AFF Level 1.

Jumping in California AFF levels 2 through 7 involve refresher sessions to ensure the student is proficient in previously provided information and shorter ground school training.

As the levels move from 2 to 7, more involvement with the student is required as the jump master(s) releases the reigns so to speak on the student. It will go from two jump masters diving with the student, to one, and then in level 7, a solo dive with careful eye from the JM.

More information on the specifics for each lesson can be obtained on the following page: Lessons 2 through 7.

We track the student’s AFF jump progression and their skills are signed off at various points during the training. When they complete Level 7, the proficiency card sent to the USPA for a Level A license. A copy of the proficiency card can be obtained at the following: Proficiency Card.
